White Priest Yells ‘Get The Hell Out’ To Grieving Family During Funeral Service

The Washington Archdiocese issued an apology to a Maryland family after they were inhumanely kicked out of a church during a funeral service for their matriarch.

A large crowd gathered on June 26 to honor the memory of Agnes Hicks, 54, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Charlotte Hall. But according to WTTG, things quickly went left after a chalice was accidentally knocked over during the service.

An argument ensued between Hicks’ family and Pastor Michael Briese, who yelled for everyone to “get the hell out,” while also incredulously instructing the family to take Hicks’ body with them.

“That’s when all hell broke loose. He literally got on the mic and said, ‘there will be no funeral, there will be no mass, no repass, everyone get the hell out of my church,’” said Shanice Chisely, Hicks’ daughter in an interview with the outlet.

“He disrespected our family, he disrespected my mother,” she continued. “He called my mother ‘a thing.’ He said, ‘get this thing out of my church! Everyone get the hell out of my church!’ It was very sad. I’ve never seen anything like that before.”

Briese also called the police—escalating tensions as everything continued to go awry. In a video captured by someone in the crowd, Briese can be seen yelling during the aftermath of the argument.

The family was later seen carrying Hicks’ casket outside the church. After police arrived and conducted an investigation, they ruled the family was not in the wrong. They were later escorted to a different funeral home where they were able to lay Hicks to rest.

Hicks’ family and friends say they are shocked and angered by Briese’s actions, especially during such an emotional moment. The family said that Saint Mary’s was important to Hicks–it’s where she was baptized as a young girl.

“This was uncalled for and it really hurt me. It really did. To see your loved one come there to rest and to be shut down like that,” said Larry Hicks, Agnes’ brother.

Briese was placed on leave and issued an apology to the family, the Maryland Independent reports.

“The man who canceled this family’s funeral and dispatched them in anger, is not the man who hours before worked to minister to their needs in a time of grief. Instead of lifting them up, I let them down. For the anger and embarrassment I caused to that family, I am profoundly sorry,” Briese wrote.

In a statement released to WTTG, the Archdiocese said the following:

“What occurred at St. Mary’s Parish this morning does not reflect the Catholic Church’s fundamental calling to respect and uplift the God-given dignity of every person nor does that incident represent the pastoral approach the priests of the Archdiocese of Washington commit to undertake every day in their ministry.”

“My mom was supposed to have a great funeral and all this came up and I’m so traumatized by it. I’m going to be thinking about this every day. I’ll never forget this day,” said Davon Chisley, Hicks’ son.

Woman Dies In Hospice Care After Power Source Suspended Over Unpaid Bill

A New Jersey woman died in hospice care on Thursday after an electric company shut off power to her home due to an unpaid bill.

The family of Linda Daniels is speaking out after the tragic death of the family matriarch–who relied on power to keep her oxygen tank running. Daniels,68, who suffered from congestive heart failure died on July 5, WABC-TV reports.

Daniels’ daughter, Desiree spoke to the outlet, expressing the magnitude of her loss. Desiree said the family tried to keep Daniels comfortable in the sweltering heat after PSEG cut the power supply to Daniels’ home.

“We put one ice pack here by her side and one on the other side. We were fanning her. It was so hot in here, she couldn’t breathe – it was unbearable,” she said.

After the family depleted an emergency supply of energy, they called an EMS who gave them an additional reserve. Desiree said the family also reached out to PSEG, begging them to turn the electricity back on, but to no avail, their requests were unfulfilled.

“One rep told me to stop calling, that there were too many tickets in the system,” she said. “PSEG said ‘Oh, we’re on our way.’ Kept telling us that, but no one showed up.”

Desiree says that her mother’s equipment was registered with PSEG. The family had paid $1,250 of their $1,800 past due balance. PSEG maintains they notified the customer that the power would be cut off if the balance wasn’t paid.

“Because there was no response from the customer, the customer was shut off. They had not notified us of any medical circumstances in the home,” PSEG said in a statement to the outlet.

Power was restored one day after Daniels died. Newark police are investigating while PSEG said it will review records. Desiree is still determining whether she will take legal action.

“She was the matriarch of this family – she was the glue that held everything together,” Desiree said.

San Bernardino Prosecutor Calls Maxine Waters A ‘C—t,’& Wonders Why She Hasn’t Been Shot

Michael Selyem, a senior California prosecutor, is currently on leave following a barrage of hateful remarks he made on social media according to the San Bernardino Sun.

“Being a loud-mouth c–t in the ghetto you would think someone would have shot this b—h by now,” Selyem, 50, wrote in reference to a Facebook post about congresswoman Maxine Waters.

Selyem, the San Bernardino County Deputy District Attorney, has over 12 years of experience working specifically on gang-related cases.

Waters has been a vocal advocate against President Trump and recently advocated that demonstrators continue to put pressure ont Trump administration officials.

After many of her colleagues called for Waters to recant her statement, she remained vigilant in standing her ground. Waters said she’s received death threats over her statement, but showed upmost fearlessness when she urged her detractors to “shoot straight.”

Selyem’s disdain didn’t just end at Waters, he also took up commentary about former First Lady Michelle Obama, and an unnamed victim of a police involved shooting

Selyem shared a fake image Obama holding a sign which read, “Trump grabbed my penis,” directly poking fun at victims of sexual violence.

During a heated online exchange about an unspecified police shooting Seleym wrote the following, “That s—bag got exactly what he deserved. … You reap what you sow. And by the way go f— yourself you liberal s—bag.”

Selyem also posted disparaging remarks regarding immigration. “I am all for white males immigrating here legally and starting a business. It is the terrorists a–holes sneaking in here wanting to kill me an (sic) my family that I’m opposed to,” he wrote.

He also shared an image of a man in a sombrero which read,” “Mexican word of the day: Hide,” the Sun reports.

An internal complaint was made against Selyem on June 25 and the San Bernardino District Attorney’s office launched their official investigation on June 28.

“The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office does not condone hate, discrimination or the incitement of violence. Our community and the entire criminal justice system depend on having a fair, ethical and unbiased prosecutor,” District Attorney Mike Ramos said during a Monday press conference.

Ramos also stressed that the investigation weighs between Selyem’s first amendment rights and a restoring a sense of trust within the community. The social media policy for the DA’s office also does not constrict Selyem from posting on social media, but may violate code of conduct Ramos explained.

But regardless of that, many want Selyem fired from his position–and the calls are gaining momentum.

Claim to Fame: After becoming a finalist in their “Swim Search” competition, Majors traveled to the island of Belize to pose for the legendary Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue clad only in palm leaves and confidence. She shared in a behind the scenes video for the brand that even though she was “in the water about to pose,” she still couldn’t believe that she had been chosen.

If you’re searching for physical evidence that one can be happy and healthy at any size you need look no further than Tabria Majors. Instead of resembling a rigid washboard the model’s taut stomach muscles settle into her midsection to perfectly compliment her soft curves instead of eradicating them.

Instagram Photo

Majors casually breaks necks on sets and on social media in swimsuit pieces featuring narrow strings and strategic cut outs that actively disprove the misguided belief held by some retailers that plus-women and the models meant to represent them exclusively belong in high waisted swimwear

Instagram Photo

But just because you’re drop dead gorgeous with a ridiculous body doesn’t mean you’re always blessed with the ability to stay f*ck boy free. Majors and her friend writer Mindy J. recount their plus-size dating misadventures in “The Thick Podcast” which they describe as “weekly conversations about love life and lipo but mostly love.”

The show is a hilarious corner of the internet where chivalry is, in fact, dead and curves aren’t a trend that can be ushered in and out by reports on Page Six

Instead of nipping and tucking her face and body into socially acceptable standards with apps like facetune Majors chooses to stand out on Instagram by using the platform to promote body positivity.

In 2017 she went viral by recreating iconic images of Victoria Secret campaigns. She expressed to Health Magazine in an interview that the lingerie retailer would never cast her in a campaign.

She faced the issue head on writing in one of her captions “maybe I’ll be a Victoria’s Secret angel for Halloween since it ain’t happening in real life.”

Anticipation is high for Lil Rel Howery’s new sitcom Rel featuring social media star Jess Hilarious. The humorous duo are combining comedic powers to bring a new sitcom with nostalgic flavor to FOX. Rel packs a “throwback” feel including a real life audience like some of your favorite 90s shows, which was a conscious decision Howery revealed to us in an exclusive interview at this year’s Essence Festival.

“I just went to the old format,” he said. “I’m just kind of bringing some old school flavor to the new generation to fit in with the other great shows on TV like Insecure, Atlanta, Blackish, Grownish and so many really funny shows. Just to be apart of it and bring another flavor is going to be good for TV and good for us,” he added.

Howery’s Hollywood ascension is admirable. The witty actor captured our attention as the sarcastic and imaginative best friend in Get Out and kept us laughing on The short-lived Carmichael Show. Roles on Issa Rae’s Insecure and in Jay Z’s Moonlight and the recent comedy Uncle Drew secured his place as the next comic to take over the big screen.

We are equally eager to watch how Jess Hilarious’ personality translates on the TV screen. The funny woman, who has effortlessly roasted some of your favorite celebs and survived, brings her unabashed comedy to the show.

Jess’ rise to riches story is inspiring. The young mother parlayed her Instagram fame into a lucrative stand-up comic career and now she’s carved out her own lane that leads directly to our living room. Much of Jess’ success is centered around her unadulterated jokes and consistency.

“I say the things that people want to say but they don’t want get the backlash for it,” she said. “I feel like I’m the voice for a lot of people who have insecurities or who are scared.”

Jess, whose recent wig-less skit went viral leaving her the butt of her own jokes, finds strength in her ability to relate to women. “I feel like no woman should feel like they’re ugly.”

Girl, I will take this wig off for you right now and Chris over there still won’t leave. I’ll pluck these lashes off in a second,” she joked. “Makeup is an enhancement, but when you can real and speak to women from soul to soul and not from beat face to beat face then you can really get into somebody’s head. And you can minister people through jokes, through humor and your personality and I think that’s what sets people apart.”

Catch a sneak peek of Rel September 9th and the full episode on September 30 at 9:30 on FOX.

‘LHHATLS7’ Recap: Stevie J And Erica Mena Engage In Verbal Warfare

tevie J. + Joseline Hernandez Host Gold Room

Source: Prince Williams / Getty

It’s Love and Hip-Hop Atlanta reunion time again. Part one is just heating up but it’s definitely not without strife. First, we start with the Kirk and Rasheeda saga. There’s no real point in regurgitating this because Kirk is still trash and Rasheeda is probably always going to take him back. She says they’re happy and that their businesses are flourishing, and Stevie J even added his two cents about their situation. He loves them together because they represent “Black excellence, black love at its finest.”

via GIPHY

Lowered expectations, much?

Anyway, there is a moment when host Nina Parker asks Jasmine if she was sincere when she kept popping up on Rasheeda allegedly trying to apologize and to get Kirk in her son’s life. Jasmine said she was sincere but Rasheeda reveals that she feels some type of way about Jasmine for the one most obvious reason, but also because Jasmine was making shady posts on social media. Rasheeda goes in on Jasmine again, as if she’s the only person in the wrong here, but in the end, Rasheeda says she has accepted Kanon into her life and Kirk’s Dirty D arse will probably cheat again. Same ol’ same ol’.

The next issue, which is the biggest issue since #theBlogs were all over this, is the Stevie J and Erica Mena saga. They were bickering back and forth. It got nasty and Stevie definitely took jabs at Erica as a mom and calling her a hoe. Then Stevie started coming for Sean Garrett. Remember, Stevie feels like Sean, who is working with Erica, was putting bugs in her ear about him so they have beef too and they almost come to blows but security gets on that and escorts Stevie out so he can take a break.

Fast forward a bit and Stevie comes back out. Erica and Stevie go at it again and is escorted out again, for real for real, but he doesn’t attack her contrary to what #theBlogs were reporting.

via GIPHY

Finally, the episode ends with a discussion about Tommie and Spice’s situation. You know, they were working together but Tommie was unprofessional, which pissed Spice off. Then, during the season, Spice tried to talk to Tommie about her unprofessionalism, and that was enough to set Tommie off. She went off so hard that she attacked and threatened security and production and they decided that she was done on Love and Hip-Hop unless she got help for her alcohol problem.

As far as the reunion goes, Tommie says she’s embarrassed by her behavior but still maintains that she doesn’t have an alcohol problem. However, she purchased an ankle bracelet that monitors her alcohol intake, just to stay on top of things. Then Spice has her moment to discuss some of the frustrating things that happened with Tommie and Tommie feels some type of way and contradicts everything she said about feeling embarrassed previous behavior on the show by exhibiting the same ratchet behavior. Tommie goes off on Spice. Spice goes off on Tommie. Tommie threatens to “beat Spice’s ass” and then…challenge accepted. They get up and try to go at it but once again, LHHATL security swoops in before anyone can throw blows. Nina Parker is deeply disturbed, and we’re all left wondering why she puts herself through this every year. Those checks must be nice.

Anyway, we’ll be back at it again next week for part two.

‘Basketball Wives’ Recap: Tami’s Ochocinco Comments To Evelyn Stun The Group

'When Love Kills' Atlanta Screening - Arrivals

Source: Paras Griffin / Getty

The Basketball Wives are still at each other’s throats, as usual. Tami is still trying to spin the narrative that Evelyn lied on Chad and everyone else thinks this is messed up. Basically, it seems like she’s she’s just saying anything she can to win an argument. This is quite vicious. It’s super vicious. In the end, Shaunie claims she’s over the entire situation. Evelyn says Tami owes her an apology. Tami says she only owes Shaunie an apology because Shaunie is actually her friend.

via GIPHY

Anyway, they all move on from the venue without fists being thrown, but even Shaunie is shocked that Tami would say that Evelyn lied about the Ochocinco situation. Evelyn is left behind and she’s super triggered to the point where she’s in tears. That was a traumatic experience for her and Tami really went low. Even Jackie feels bad about the situation and you know Jackie hates Evelyn. Speaking of Jackie, can we clap for her for not being involved in the mess for once. She has actually been lowkey this season thus far.

Anyway, Jennifer tries to comfort Evelyn until they all finally move on, but it’s weird that Evelyn is willing to overlook Jen’s behavior because Jennifer’s actions with that rumor were evil too. Later on, Malaysia and Jackie meet up and discuss how nasty it was what Tami did and that it even made them forget about what Jennifer did. This is when Malaysia and Jackie try to feign shock that these women could tear each other down so easily. The gist of this conversation is, they think Tami went too far and they also don’t trust Jennifer for her nasty actions to and from now on she will get the side eye.

Then Malaysia mentions that she wants CeCe and Kristen to make up so she plans to get them together to hash it out. Yay!

via GIPHY

Now we’re at Kristen and CeCe’s peace mediation luncheon. It goes left from jump because Kristen thought it was a good idea to bring Jen, “her big sis.” Malaysia and Cece are already annoyed by this because Jen wasn’t invited and doesn’t even like Cece. Malaysia sums it up well, “Jen’s not a very nice person.” But despite this, Cece and Kristen try to have their talk anyway. Eventually, that gets sidetracked when Jen and Cece get into it. CeCe wants an apology, Jen doesn’t think she’s in the wrong and that’s that. Then Jackie and Malaysia jump in and to refocus the point, which is getting CeCe and Kristen to make up. Then Jen jumps in again and says that Kristen said that she and CeCe were never really close anyway. CeCe is shocked and hurt because she thought they were close. Way to messy again Jen. This goes nowhere. Shocker.

via GIPHY

CeCe, later on, reveals to Jackie that she thinks that Kristen is putting on a show in front of the other women because she wants to be accepted. Jackie actually gives sound advice. Jackie. Christie. Gives. Sound. Advice. But basically, CeCe needs to decide if this is worth saving or if she should just move on.

Who votes for them to just move on?

via GIPHY

Then Jackie meets up with Tami to get her side of the story about how the ponderosa went left and to tell her that she was wrong. Tami says she left that situation hurt because Evelyn made hurtful jabs about her weight because she’s a diabetic and takes her weight seriously. Evelyn made fun of her walk and she has issues with her feet because she has diabetic nerve pain. So, basically, Evelyn pushed her to make the commentary about the DV.

via GIPHY

Jackie acknowledges that Evelyn did say some mean things but that Tami still went really low. Then Tami says she’s a domestic violence survivor and she doesn’t take that stuff lightly and that the things she knows about Evelyn’s situation are what Evelyn told her. Now Tami is implying that Evelyn told her she fabricated the Chad situation. However, Evelyn tweeted that she’d never talk to Tami about anything let alone this sort of situation. The latter is much more believable. It just seems like Tami knows she went too far and is grasping at straws to make actions look less wicked. But there’s hope for her because she finally admits that she was wrong for throwing the DV situation in Evelyn’s face.

via GIPHY

That’s probably the closest we’ll get to an apology from Tami.

Next week Malaysia goes full-on Compton on Jennifer and even tosses a table in her direction. This will be fun.

Black Women & The Divine: “My Religion Is Christian But I Consider Myself More Spiritual Than Religious In Practice”

Charise Frazier

Source: Charise Frazier / Charise Frazier

In this new column, Black Women & The Divine, Lifestyle Editor Keyaira Kelly sits down with women all over the world to explore their different faith systems. This week’s edition is dedicated to Charise Frazier, News Producer and writer for HelloBeautiful.com
How do you pray?

I usually take about 15 minutes each day whether in the morning or at night to give gratitude to God. I do this sometimes with mediation, or sometimes it’s brief like a quick “thank you” when I reach my destination safely. Then there are days when it’s just such a beautiful day and I feel blessed to be alive so I say that out loud. For me, I feel my spirit and mind is closely intertwined with the God. I spend a large part of the day checking in with the creator and making sure I continue to feed that connection.

What is your religion?

For all intent and purposes I am Christian, but I consider myself more spiritual than religious in practice.

What were you raised to believe in? Did your faith system change from how you were raised? If so, why?

I was raised in the Baptist Church. My parents weren’t avid churchgoers growing up, but my mother was raised Baptist, while my dad was raised in the AME church (African-Methodist-Episcopalian). However, they are both believers and instilled a sense of spirituality in my life. I grew up in California where I attended a Baptist church with my close friend and her family.

I still consider myself to be Christian but there were a few things along the way that in my adulthood made me think deeper about what I was taught and if that still aligned with what I believed.

How did you come to adopt this belief?

I think I became a bit separated from strict religious practice after noticing the treatment of women in the church. I remember seeing that women weren’t allowed to sit in the front row of the church and when I questioned why the answer, “Because that’s where men sit,” didn’t jive with me. At a young age I saw that women were oftentimes placed lower on the totem pole and some of the sermons seemed to deem women as the origin of sin and evil. That narrative directly affected how I saw myself, which I didn’t realize until much later (in my early 20’s).

I also became hesitant of some of the strict belief systems after one of my really close male friends came out to me during my freshman year of college. Knowing what I had been taught about the LGBT community in church (that they were full of sin and going to hell) and seeing the pain on my friend’s face made me in direct conflict of what I thought I knew/was taught. I started to  seek answers, to understand that the Jesus of love I came to know would never abandon any his children. I don’t believe that all Christians are against the LGBT community, but I do believe that the church community should work harder to address the wounds that exist, especially in LGBT communities of color—a group that at times has felt ostracized by the church.

How do your beliefs influence your daily life?

I believe that wanting to be more patient, loving, gracious and caring makes me operate in a double-sided mind state. What I mean by that is that I try to come to a place of understanding. I always want to know the “why” of people—what are their motivators/triggers that make them act in the way they do, speak in the way they speak and pursue the goals they dream of. This practice has helped me diminish some of my judgmental tendencies and makes me more human. In practicing compassion I believe we are tapping into the God that exists inside of ourselves, for the creator is wholly loving and accepting.

What criticisms have you received about your belief system?

At times my mom and I have differed on my belief system because she is very Scripture based. I admire that so much about her, but we do differ on ideals. For instance, once I challenged the idea of saying “he/or she” when I referred to God and we had a heated discussion over it. I understand that a lot of Christian values are also based in patriarchy and as I evolve more as looking at myself as a womanist, I see it has changed some of the ideals I believed in, while also challenging them.

Do you have a daily practice you participate in? Please describe.

I keep a prayer journal in which I write down my conversations with the creator. Like any relationship, you have to be invested and give of yourself. It makes me feel like we are deeply connected because I do believe that God lives inside of our hearts. Using words to connect to God had a two-fold importance to me because words are the gift that I was given. God has given each of us a gift and I believe the purpose of life is to tap into it and use it abundantly. I always love the line from “The Color Purple” where Shug says to Celie, “I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don’t notice it. People think pleasing God is all God cares about. But any fool living in the world can see it always trying to please us back.” I feel that it’s true–although the creator is humble, it also wants to know that you are appreciative of what you have been given.

Do you have a favorite quote/scripture/ or verse you live by?

I don’t have a favorite verse per se, but the Scripture that has kept me grounded lately is 1 Corinthians 10:13 which says: “There hath no temptation taken you but such as man can bear: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to endure it.”

Basically: God won’t put more on you than you can bear.

What is the most misunderstood aspect of your faith/religion and why?

I think people mostly believe Christians are out seeking to change and enforce a conservative will on people. But most of the Christians I know are some of the most forgiving, loving and understanding people I know. I hope that more public examples of Christians in which there is a willing acceptance to embrace each other in our humanity. Humanity to me means the totality of a person—even if they do look, act or speak in a way that makes you uncomfortable, I believe it is still necessary to love past our comfort zones.

“Damn Remy, you lost mad weight. Hey slim,” the “Power” producer commented on one of her photos.

The social media compliment read as disrespect for Papoose, who then took aim at 50’s baby mama, offering his homeboy to her in exchange for fifty:

Then 50 responded by posted a clip from a blog headline on the snubs, asking “What the f*ck is Remy doing in the house to make this boy this jealous?” He also suggested that Papoose never say another word to him until his “wife is not paying all the bills fool.”

We couldn’t get over the 19-year-old’s beautiful ponytail and Picasso like edges, done by none other than celebrity hairstylist, Vernon François. Hello Beautiful spoke exclusively with François, who explained the inspiration behind this look.

François revealed, “She had the leotard on and was showing lots of skin, we wanted to make it feminine, really sexy, but still really strong and bold at the same time.” Well, he achieved just this. Stenberg’s hairstyle looked so fresh as she sat for interviews and panels throughout the day.

“We are really living in this moment of couture fashion, so I wanted to give her what we call, ‘hairline realness,’ but still making it really feminine by giving it really tight and clean. Keeping the hair over the ears, which you see. Giving her a really obnoxious ponytail that’s a bit messy and uncomfortable. I kinda like for things to look a bit unusual and she’s a beautiful canvas to work from because she really explores greatness in that way.” ~ Vernon François

We wanted to know how to recreate this haute hairstyle, which is perfect for summer. Here’s how to get the look in XX easy steps.

Starting off with clean hair, François told Hello Beautiful, “the best thing to do was to moisturize her hair with my Leave-In Conditioner by Vernon François ($28.00, US.VernonFrancois.com), which is really great because it retains moisture and has oils so you can use heat against it. It’s a heat protector at the same time.” Beauties, you want to start with a leave-in conditioner as it not only moisturizes your hair, but also helps detangle and facilitate styling.

After spraying her hair with the Leave-In Conditioner by Vernon François, he roughly blow dried her hair. François explained that you want to half blow dry it so it looks, “like your hair has been half-pressed, it has that frizzy texture to it and then put it back into a ponytail so you already have the volume already.” François is all about allowing ones’ natural texture to shine through the style, stating, “I kinda really like the textures to come through in everything I do.” We’re here for it and his support of all hair textures.

Now, how to achieve these artistic like edges?! François gave us all the details. He used the Göt2b Ultra Glued Invincible Styling Gel ($4.78, Walmart.com). This prouduct is perfect because it doesn’t give you the white flakes in your hair (which shows up strong on darker hair). François joked, “Got to slay down that hairline!” He mixed the Göt2b Ultra Glued Invincible Styling Gel with his Light Weight Styling Serum by Vernon François ($28.00, US.VernonFrancois.com). Why mix the two versus just using one? “I mixed the two together so it doesn’t go too hard and break the hairline. If you look closely, you’ll see the hairline is not too perfect. There is also some wave in the hairline, which is important for the natural texture.”

He finished the look with Paul Mitchell Freeze And Shine Super Spray ($10.42, Walmart.com) explaining that the product “keeps the hair structured and really shiny.”

Viola! Now you can have this look too! François added, “It’s really simple stuff, it’s how you mesh it together. If you look carefully, you’ll see it’s not too perfect. The ponytail has a little bit of give in it. I like it to look like you’ve done it yourself.” Thank you!

“I think sometimes you see something quite beautiful, you have to create hope you can achieve it yourself. Seeing the imperfections, I think, it looks more normal. That’s what I try to emulate, but recognizing she’s on camera, so there are certain parts that look refined. Perfection doesn’t exist and I had to teach myself that and sometimes when it’s done, it’s done.” ~ Vernon François

This achievable ponytail would be perfect for brunch, date night or simply a hot summer day. If you have kinky-curly hair texture, use setting paper to help lay your edges and commit it to memory. Personally, I use Wrapp-It Black Styling Strips ($5.09, SallyBeauty.com).

This is an effortless look and François explaned it was inspired, “by less is more.” He shared, “She took off half the jewelry that she was meant to wear with it as well because we just really appreciated the clean lines that were there and I think the hair compliments the makeup and the outfit.”

Agreed!

This hairstyle is perfect for the NOLA heat and will be sure to have you looking haute all summer. Beauties, if you try it, please tag @HelloBeautiful or me, @TheIslanDiva, so I can see the look!

Popular fashion designer Ms Decordon has been hospitalized after her partner, Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy, allegedly attacked her, leaving her face bruised and bloody in a post that is making its way around social media.

According to Decordon’s friend, McCoy has a history of abuse against not only Decordon but his dog and son, who she claims he would savagely beat over the slightest infraction.

“We didn’t say anything about how you beat your dog ‘Henny’ into kidney failure, “she wrote in a detailed post on Instagram. “Let’s not talk about all the times my best friend had to stop you from viciously beating your son for small things like peeing in the bed.” The post has over 4,000 comments and growing.

Ms Decordon last posted an image, seen (on the left) below, 18 hours ago. Fast-forward to this morning when the incident reportedly occurred and she is severely beaten.

Thousands of her followers have flocked to her comments section offering their prayers. The ominous caption could be seen as a warning. “Don’t be a follower looking into another woman’s “social media” life & want it so bad that you’ll do whatever it takes to be in that woman’s shoes…. cause u don’t know what that woman has been through to forcefully put on a smile for the gram!” she wrote.

McCoy casually denied accusations on Instagram, but that hasn’t stopped IG users from calling him a “woman beater” in his comments section.

The Bills are reportedly looking into the accusations, a CNN reporter tweeted.

The NFL implemented a domestic violence policy, in 2014, after public outcry following leaked surveillance footage that showed Ray Rice knocking out his wife and dragging her out the elevator. The policy enforces harsher punishment for players who commit domestic violence. Under the conduct police, players will face a six-game ban for the first offense. Players who commit a second offense will be banned for life.

“My disciplinary decision led the public to question our sincerity, our commitment, and whether we understood the toll that domestic violence inflicts on so many families,” Goodell wrote, via USA Today Sports. “I take responsibility both for the decision and for ensuring that our actions in the future properly reflect our values. I didn’t get it right. Simply put, we have to do better. And we will.”

The NFL has yet to respond to this latest domestic violence attack from one of their players. But there’s no doubt McCoy’s career is over.

‘Love Is’ Recap: Nuri’s Doubt Jeopardizes Her Relationship With Yasir

Tonight’s episode of Love Is picks up with our lovebirds surrounded in doubt. Nuri isn’t so sure that she can trust Yasir, especially after he left her hanging. They’re not in a great place right now because Yasir hasn’t been in touch with Nuri since the piece of paper with her number on it is in his impounded car. Yasir also realizes that he still loves Ruby too. Her surgery situation brought him back closer and he realizes he has a hard decision to make—choose one and the other gets hurt, no matter what. It doesn’t help that Ruby’s parents think they’re still together (because she didn’t tell them the truth) and invited them to dinner in six weeks.

Meanwhile, Nuri is pissed at Yasir, she also misses him and she can’t help but think the worst, which is that they’re not meant to be. So, she forces herself to move on. Work keeps her busy, especially because she’s doing well, and so does Keith, the work boo-thank that she was supposed to go skiing with. She forgot they were supposed to go skiing until he shows up to her place to remind her. He bought her some cute wintertime accessories too. Their fun gets interrupted when she’s called into work to brainstorm for a fan favorite character.

Yasir shows up at her place just as her car is peeling off and she doesn’t seem him chasing her. It’s another missed connection. In another romantic, but also kind of sad twist, he goes to the junkyard and convinces them to let him get into his car so he can get some scripts and find Nuri’s number. But Yasir still doesn’t find the number because it fell on the ground, while he was rummaging, and blows away. Back to scouring the phone book for a woman whose last name he doesn’t know. The universe is working for them but in very different ways.

via GIPHY

Yasir goes home to check on Ruby again. He suggests going back home. Ruby doesn’t want him to go home because then she’ll be alone in LA and her parents will worry. Plus, she still has another 6 weeks to heal from her liposuction and needs help. They make peace at this moment. He agrees to stay and she says he can have the couch back. By this point, Ruby and Yasir know that there is no romantic future between the two of them but they’re still using each other It’s a symbiotic relationship.

Meanwhile, Nuri’s co-worker friend, Angela, convinces her that Yasir is done and that she should move on. Nuri does a terrible job of convincing herself that Angela is right and decides to move on with Keith.

via GIPHY

Yasir tries his luck by stopping by Nuri’s house again and actually catches her home. This is his chance to answer her questions. He’s hopeful and even writes, “I love you” on her dusty car window. The truth is, Yasir Omar isn’t his birth name, he changed his name once he converted to Islam, he has a six-year-old son that he misses, he’s divorced, he and Ruby are done, but still friends, he’s not perfect and he is using Nuri. He’s using her to make him a better person. It’s really sweet when he says, “You’re my fresh start” and then Keith knocks on the door and ruins everything. Nuri is shaken by this because she still loves Yasir, but her lack of faith got the best of her. She tries to explain herself to Yasir but then he says, ‘You’re like the rest of them.” That’s man-speak for, “My feelings are hurt.” Anyway, Nuri says she’s going to fix it but Yasir is defeated. He opens the door, greets Keith in a civil manner, and keeps it stepping, but not before erasing the “I love you” on her car.

A bank is returning a 112-year-old man’s life savings after it was stolen from an identity thief.

According to Dallas News, Bank of America announced that they are refunding Richard Overton’s account after they learned a few weeks ago that the money was fraudulently drained from his account.

His cousin, Volma Overton, told Dallas News that his family was shocked by the bank’s generosity.

“Man, I teared up,” he said.

“I couldn’t believe it. They made it happen. The executive of the company said he’d take care of this, and he took care of it.

A Bank of America spokeswoman confirmed that the bank was investigating the issue, as was Austin police and the feds.

“Everyone wants to get to the bottom of this. I don’t think it’s going to be long before we know,” Overton added.

Sadly, the thieves stole Richard’s identity too.

“Someone set up a bogus account, got his Social Security number and accessed his personal checking account.”

Luckily for Overton, who is dubbed the oldest living vet in the U.S., his bank account isn’t attached to his GoFund Me Page. The fundraising account, which has over $420,000, mostly goes to taking care of Overton. See, he requires 4 caretakers to watch him over every day.

However, when news hit that his account had been hijacked, his family saw a spike in donations for his fundraising page, the Dallas News noted.

“It’s been a true blessing in disguise for us,” his cousin stressed.

That, and now “everything’s back just like it was” before, with Overton sitting on his front porch, where he smokes 12 cigars a day and sips on whiskey and Coke.

We see you Mr. Overton, living your best life! We’re glad you got your money back.

Ohio Woman Used 911 As Her Personal Customer Service On 11-Year-Old Newspaper Delivery Boy

A lesson in work ethic went completely awry after a white woman in an Arlington, Ohio neighborhood called the police on an unsuspecting Black child.

Brandie Sharp was out delivering newspaper ads with her sons, 17-year-old Mycah and 11-year-old Uriah, on Friday when police approached the family inquiring about their whereabouts.

Sharp said the family accidentally delivered papers to the wrong home and sent Uriah to retrieve the papers. However, a nosey neighbor turned to the cops to investigate.

“I noticed they were walking up to houses with nothing in hand and one of them came back with something,” the woman said in an interview with police, according to WSYX-TV. “It seemed kind of suspicious.”

Sharp explained to the police that nothing criminal was happening, especially at 5:30 in the afternoon.

She used Facebook to vent her frustrations in a post.

“First day of paper route and we are pulled over by the police,” Sharp wrote. “Sad I cant even teach my son the value of working without someone whispering and looking at us out the side of their eye perhaps because we DON’T ‘look like a person that belongs in their neighborhood.’ ”

As a result, Sharp says she and her family will consider another route.

“We have seen some conversations on Facebook relative to a police response to a report of suspicious activity that turned out to be completely benign,” police officials wrote in a statement over the weekend.

The list of unwarranted calls on Black people rages on.
